Marmot Men's Freerider ski pants

For the raw, backcountry skiers and explorers. The Marmot Freerider will provide the best possible quality needed while skiing. As listed above, it is waterproof and breathable and is a great companion to keep your insides warm during a skiing session. The GORE-TEX 2 L ensures that no snow creeps in and ruins the inside of your pants. There is no insulation which experts accept as a positive aspect because there is not a lot of bulk around your legs.

It is important to be fully mobile in a sport such as skiing. If you prefer, you can choose to wear another layer underneath these pants. The material is rough and durable while also enhancing the mobility. You can expect no wear, tears or scratches at the end of a season of using these pants fully. The pocket placement is convenient and items don’t fall off even if the zippers are open and are also waterproof. I think the most important feature is the 2 layer GORE-TEX, which ultimately is the key component in keeping you dry while also reducing internal condensation. All these features and the pants are still comfy even for a long duration.

What The Users Are Saying

Overall, the reviews are encouraging for any potential buyer. Interestingly, the Marmot Men’s Freerider seems to be a popular choice among tall men. Especially the ones above 6 foot. Common feedback includes the awesome GORE-TEX functionality and the optimum pocket placement. A user who is 6’4″ and 185lbs got the large version which was a perfect fit and stated that pockets and the vents worked great after a long shred on the mountain to cool down. Several other users have commented on the vents working well in warmer temps and on hikes. There are no complaints at all apart from the legs being a tad long and drag on the floor without ski boots though but with boots they are perfect length. If you are a size 32, medium would be the best fit.

Marmot Refuge Ski Pants Review

  • MemBrain® 2L 100% Nylon Oxford 5.4oz/yd as main material and 100% seam taped
  • Weighs 1lb 10oz (737.1g)
  • CORDURA® scuff guards resist abrasions
  • Water-resistant zippered leg vents provide airflow; lower-leg zippers at the hem for easy on/off
  • RECCO® Avalanche Rescue Reflector included
  • Articulated knees

Not a budget pant for sure. But as you can guess from the specs, it is also well equipped to handle the wet climatic conditions with better durability. The specs are almost identical to the previous Freerider except for the material. But the function remains the same. It wicks moisture and resists saturation. The articulation ensures that mobility remains intact. Breathability is conserved as always. The pocket placement is convenient with 2 zippered hands, 2 zippered thighs. There is nothing much to say in terms of specs, since it is identical to the previous version and you get both the Men’s and Women’s version.

What The Users Are Saying

Just like the Freerider, the compliments keep coming for the lightweight, warmth, pocket placement and of course the water resistivity. The one single complaint that keeps resonating is the length of the pants with every size. It just does not seem to coordinate with the waist size for most. Comments of nature; “The pants worked well. Has a great fit and is thin and warm. My only complaint is that they were a little long.” Nonetheless, the pants are quite popular within the snowboarding community.

Marmot Men’s Spire Pant

  • 3L GORE-TEX 100% Polyester 4.9 oz/yd
  • 100% Seam Taped
  • All Water Resistant Zippers
  • Athletic Cut and Articulated Knees

Now you must be wondering why on earth did we not place these Marmot ski pants on top given that it has 3 layers of GORE-TEX? Well, as we mentioned, the Freerider is more popular within the snowboarding community and it is slightly cheaper plus it isn’t as extreme as this. The Spire plant also features RECCO® Avalanche Rescue Reflector and has no insulation. The weight is surprisingly a little lower than the previous two. The rest of the features are pretty much the same. Now let’s see what the users are saying.

What The Users Are Saying

Everyone is loving and praising the quality of the pants, naturally so due to the 3 layer protection and water repellant build. A few disagreements revolve around the suspenders. Although Marmot claims that the suspenders are removable, apparently they aren’t. Additionally, if your thighs are well sized up (inseam of 32), you should expect tightness in the crotch area with these pants.

Also, a button or velcro at the ankle zipper would have been a nice addition to match the hefty price. The users are also satisfied with the boot cut as they fit well over ski boots. If you have done the adjustment well, your boots and inner clothing will remain dry even if you’re skiing powder. Michal who purchased off of Amazon claims that, he was caught in a snow/rain storm while skiing, and nothing under his outer layer got wet. Overall, the pants are a good buy, if you fit in with the measurements and you are someone who battles with extreme weather regularly.

Marmot Girls’ Slopestar Pant

  • 10k/10k Marmot® Membrain® waterproof/breathable fabric material
  • 1 lb. 0.8 oz
  • Thermal R 60 gram insulation
  • Internal gaiters and Articulated Knees
  • Zippered hand pockets and Cordura scuff guards

Here is the best budget option for Women’s/ Girls Marmot ski pants. It does not have GORE-TEX material but the fabric is pretty decent. There is insulation though and the waterproof, breathable Marmot MemBrain fabric repels heavy rain and snow. Additionally, it is seam taped to enhance better resistance against snow and rain. The pants are pretty versatile because of the flexible, articulated knees, as well as Kids Grow-an-Inch cuffs that lengthen wearability. If your daughter is into skiing, this would be the perfect gift for her. Pretty stylish and a decent fit for the girls.

What The Users Are Saying

Again, no complaint about the promised delivering quality. The users speak up for the pants warmth, reduced condensation, preventing snow and water getting in and the convenient pockets to store the little stuff. The only issue was the sizing mismatch. A user commented that they tried to replace a pair of 10-12 pants with a size 14 only to find they seemed quite small. So yeah, beware of it while selecting. I guess the reasonable advice would be to select a larger one than normal.

Summary

Now obviously that’s not all Marmot has to offer. But like we said, we are reviewing some of the most popular ones in the market. You may wonder why we did not include any marmot bib ski pants. Well, the feedback wasn’t that encouraging so we did not pursue it. The price tag of these aren’t exactly eye candy except for the girls Slopestar Pant, but the product is worth it. Most users are stating that they have been sticking with Marmot for quite some time now and they have not been let down in terms of winter wear.
