Canada Goose: A Brief History

The year of discovery is 1957, which makes Canada Goose 64 years old now. Sam Tick immigrated to Canada with strong motives of starting up a company. In 1957, he founded Metro Sportswear Ltd. in Toronto, which specializes in woolen vests, raincoats and snowmobile suits. In the 70’s, Sam’s son in law who is David Reiss, joins the company and makes a revolutionary turn by the invention of a volume-based down filling machine. He also established the label Snow Goose, which later became Canada Goose. In the 1980s, the Expedition Parka was developed to meet the unique needs of scientists at Antarctica’s McMurdo Station.

A significant milestone is set in the 1980s when Laurie Skreslet  wore a custom parka designed and manufactured by Metro Sportswear to conquer Mt. Everest as the first Canadian. Fast forward to the 2000’s, Canada Goose partners with musher Lance Mackey, who wins the Iditarod and the Yukon Quest dog sled races four times each, making monumental world records along the way. In 2007 Canada Goose partnered with Polar Bears International (PBI) and launched the PBI Collection. Conservation of Polar Bears were initialized when funds from every sale went to PBI to support the polar bear habitat protection.

In 2010 they expanded by acquiring a Winnipeg-based manufacturing facility to meet increased product demand and further enhancing the Made in Canada commitment. In the following years they kept progressing in their product qualities. Embedding new technologies such as HyBridge Lite jacket, improving lightweight and optimizing warmth. In 2016, the brand opened two flagship stores in the commercial capitals of Toronto and New York City. Their headquarters are situated in Toronto.

An outstanding feature of Canada Goose is their dedication to creating a greener environment. Their objectives for sustainability include minimizing greenhouse gas emissions and refining their sourcing practices to utilize better raw materials. They are also planning to use recycled fur materials from 2022. So you can see that they are not only motivated to expand and improve their business. Alright, let’s find out the best Canada Goose men’s jacket for you!

Men's down jacket

Canada Goose Men’s Jacket Overview

If you are living in a cold country like Canada and if you have some budget to spare, then a Canada Goose jacket is your best friend during the cold Canadian winters. And it is regardless of your geographical location. If your body health isn’t a huge fan of colder weather, you can always consider these jackets no matter where you are. The jackets aren’t merely high priced and warm but they are also stylish and made to suit different surroundings.

Canada Goose Carson Down Parka

  • Coyote Fur
  • Quilt-through design and recessed rib-knit cuffs for extra heat
  • Chin guard is lined with tricot fabric for softness and comfort
  • 2-Way adjustable hood with hood wire for an enhanced fit
  • 3 exterior pockets and 1 interior pocket with zipper closure

Our first men’s jacket is the Carson Down Parka. Available in 6 sizes starting off from extra small to 2XL and a variety of colors, the Carson Parka is one of their best selling men’s Parkas. The main materials present here are the Fur and the Fill. Regardless of where they’re worn, many of their products are manufactured in a way such that you are protected from the elements of the coldest places on Earth. In these environments, Canada Goose believes that fur is the best choice . Because having fur trim around a jacket hood disrupts airflow which helps protect the face from frostbite.

We’ve spoken about down before in our previous travel wear posts. Each ounce of down has approximately two million fluffy filaments that interlock and overlap to create insulating pockets of air, which is what keeps you warm. They use the Canadian Hutterite down which is the best available in Canada. The jackets are lighter and warm at the same time. The rest of the specs are pretty straightforward and standard. Zippered closure and the internal and external pockets can be found on any jacket. The inside of the arms have an elastic lining that makes the inner fabric layer stick snug onto the arm. The adjustable hood is a nice thought. An inner draw-cord at the waist would have been a good addition. Helps in tightening and keeping the cooler breezes out.

What The Customers Are Saying

For almost all the customers, the Canada Goose Carson Down Parka does it’s job spectacularly. The credibility mostly lies with the style, the perfect size fit and most importantly the protection against winter. A customer bought this jacket before a trip to Alaska. For him it was extremely comfortable, super convenient with many pockets. Kept him warm in extremely cold climates (0 degrees Fahrenheit) and didn’t make him sweat even at room temperature.

For some it was the warmest jacket that they have ever owned to the point that they didn’t even need extra layers underneath. However, like we mentioned, several customers had requested to reinstate the drawcord at the mid section to have a better fit. Because when you are in a rush, it can be annoying to try and fiddle with the zippers to get the jacket closed. The hood is nice and large for many so that they didn’t require scarfs to protect their neck. There was a single customer complaint about cold spots around the shoulder and arms. The insulation appeared to be poor close to the stitching. Nonetheless, that was just one customer and the rest are enjoying the warmth, stylishness and the functionality of this jacket.

Canada Goose Men’s Expedition Parka Coat

  • Polyester 85%, Cotton 15% , Lining & Interlining: 100% Nylon, Fill: 100% White Duck Down, Fur: 100% Whole Canadian Coyote Fur
  • Adjustable tunnel hood with adjustable bracing wire
  • Draw cord waist
  • More pockets

Another best Canada Goose men’s Parka. Again, designed to withstand the coldest temperatures on the planet and tested in the south pole. You can clearly see the distinct nature of the material inside out built with the clear intention of resisting the harshest polar winds and snowstorms. The hideaway nylon and elasticized snow skirt enhances the warmth even in temperatures below -20 degrees celsius. The recycled polyester and organic cotton makes sure to keep you dry in the coldest conditions. The recycled feather light-ripstop withstands high winds, light rain and heavy to moderate snow. Stays dry and comfortable in extreme weather. Plus it’s lightweight.

You may have noticed, unlike the previous parka this has a drawcord at the midsection. Plus it has a webbing grab-strap at the upper back for simplified storage and carrying about. Also has a placket velcro closure on the front, covering a two-way zipper. Altogether contains 8 pockets, 6 of which are exterior. Available in 7 different colors, Canada Goose hasn’t excluded the unique stylishness in the Expedition Parka.

What The Customers Are Saying

Customers are especially loving the functionality aspect of this parka on top of the premium quality. The use of buttons in place of velcros, use of two different fabrics and the massive amount of down. The lightweight fabrics in arms allow better mobility. Again the heat and warmth is top quality. It is capable of resisting temperatures even 20 degrees below 0, which of course is the main reason for constructing a parka of this caliber. However a common problem was that most customers misunderstood the exact functionality of this parka.

Since the down amount is way higher than the usual, it can get warm real quick, hence not so suitable for moderately cold temperatures unless of course you don’t mind the warmth. Plus another downside, especially was the zipper being on the wrong side. And the sizes are somewhat big. So if you order an XL since it’s what you usually choose, there is a chance that the Expedition Parka might be too big for you. Nevertheless, the mid section draw cord and the other premium quality aspects that we talked about above makes this parka a durable choice for people interacting with extreme cold climates.

And if it is too warm, the jacket is easily packable. They have embedded many features to make sure that the heat remains trapped. The power cuffs with the thumbhole construction lock, hidden snap closures for 2 way zippers are some such examples. The articulated sleeves and the underarm gussets improve range of motion and enhance fit. This jacket is designed to withstand light rain, snow and high winds. Lightweight, wind and water resistant jackets serve as a moderate level piece of travel wear when traveling to moderately colder places.

What The Customers Are Saying

Again, the customers are delighted with what they purchased. Like seriously, we are not bluffing here or trying to make a sale point. It is the truth and you can verify it yourself. To begin with, everyone is praising the heat lock features we mentioned above. Plus the packable feature that makes it so convenient to carry around. A customer from northern Illinois complimented the zip up to the chin, saying it was comfortable and locked in some serious heat. And also we said that this, unlike a bulky parka, suits moderately cold environments.

Another user described his experience saying how well the jacket served in 30°F and 40°F environments. The sleeve which wraps your wrist is nice and really warm according to most. A customer actually wore this in -20 weather with just a light long sleeve t-shirt and claimed he wasn’t cold at all. The pocket locations are great. You won’t believe that such a lightweight jacket can act as a great insulator. All the features are perfectly balanced to suit good mobility while keeping you exceptionally warm and well protected from the cold. This is the definition of you get what you pay for!

Woolford Slim Fit Down Bomber Jacket

  • 625 Fill Power white duck down
  • Slim Fit
  • 85% polyester, 15% cotton
  • Long sleeves with inset ribbed cuffs
  • 27″ length

Our final Canada Goose men’s jacket in this list. The Canada Goose Woolford slim fit down bomber jacket is another great, extreme cold resisting apparel that has gained the hearts of many users worldwide. The previous jacket has 750 fill power whereas here it is 625. So the down power is a bit reduced. But you can see that the heat lock features are remaining intact. The recessed cuffs, rib-knit collar, storm flap and longer hem all contribute to enhancing a warmer environment inside the jacket. The interior pockets are quite capable of handling many small scale electronic equipment because of the mesh embedding. It is lightweight, versatile and highly functional.

What The Customers Are Saying

According to the users, this jacket is simple, elegant and definitely built to last long. As usual they are loving the thick neck collar and the wrist cuffs. Because those keep out the chilly wind and the snow. Perfect for 20-35 F temperatures. You won’t overheat even if you have worn it for long hours. The technology is such that it balances well between the extreme temperatures to keep you well comfortable. The cotton material in the side pockets is very nice and feels great along with all other features. There were a few slight complaints with the zipper being stuck sometimes. And the weight was heavier than anticipated.  The cuffs can be a little tricky too. But other than that, everyone agrees that this is a perfect down jacket by Canada Goose for moderate to heavy winters.
